Rae grew up caring about the environment, recycling, cleaning up trails and helping others. As a young adult, they would volunteer with local animal rescues, and when Rae went to college they were involved with their local community from search and rescue, food banks as well as local church and community events for the holidays for the community. When Rae came back to the Sacramento area after college, they became an AmeriCorp VISTA, serving in a non-profit affordable housing corporation. The VISTA experience allowed them to give back to the community and work in low-income and rapid re-housing. This internship helped open new outlooks for Rae and drive them to find new ways to serve because as someone who cares deeply about the environment, they understood that others could not have the ability to care for the environment as they might want when they have so many other challenges affecting them daily. Rae has a Bachelors in Environmental Policy, and Masters in Water Resource Management and they hope to utilize their specialized background to better the community.
