She is a public safety expert and mother of three, who served as senior advisor to the Mayor and Director of Violence Prevention for the City and County of San Francisco from 2007 to 2009. She was elected founding Chairperson of the City of Oakland’s Violence Prevention and Public Safety (Measure Y) Oversight Committee and re-elected chair each of her four consecutive terms from 2005 to 2009; and in 2009, she served on the Oakland Fund for Children and Youth Planning and Oversight Committee. She was staff to the Judicial Council of California Task Force on Jury System Improvements from 2002 to 2004. She also served as external advisor to the California Wellness Foundation, the California Endowment and the Stewardship Council and on the Board of Directors of the Oakland Land Trust and the Center for Young Women’s Development. A mother of three, Dillard Smith is completing her law degree at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She has worked for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the California Supreme Court, and Wendel, Rosen, Black and Dean, LLP. She received her Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
