She has most recently worked on SMARTmuni, a transit line management tool that marries NextBus data and an iPad interface to empower transit agency staff to tackle vehicle bunching, missed runs, and other operational issues in real-time. She developed the original concept for the project and led a team of civic developers on a successful four-month pilot project with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. The groundbreaking project has been featured at an American Planning Association conference, in a TEDx talk, and in numerous media outlets, including the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Fast Company, and Government Technology.
Emily has also conducted award-winning transportation research. Her paper “Economic Effects of Traffic Calming on Urban Small Businesses” has been recognized by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Air and Waste Management Association, and California State University System, as well as the numerous conferences at which she presented her findings.
Emily received her Master’s of Public Administration degree from San Francisco State University (summa cum laude) and her undergraduate degree from Guilford College. She currently lives in San Francisco.
