2022 is a big year for our movement.
Emerge California has been empowering Democratic women leaders to run for office – and changing the face of power – for 20 years!

Since 2002, we have trained more than 800 Democratic women leaders through our signature candidate training program, the only one of its kind.
Throughout this time, we have seen what 20 years of impact means when we are intentional about who we recruit and train to serve as our elected leaders. It means that:
- The face of power has changed. Today, 182 Emerge California alumnae serve in elected office. They serve in the California State Legislature, they lead cities as Mayors, and they represent their communities at every level of government, up and down the state.
- We see ourselves represented in our elected leadership. Many of our alumnae are trailblazers, meaning they are the first to serve in their seat – the first Black woman, the first mom, the first woman of color, the first openly LGBTQ+ woman.
- More women than ever have stepped up to run for elected office. Emerge California women recruit and support their sisters to follow in their footsteps. There are now 12 cities and jurisdictions throughout the state where multiple alumnae serve together. In Suisun City, three of the five Council Members – including the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem – are alumnae!
