Wendy Wheatcroft is a mom of three and an educator turned activist. After experiencing many real school lockdowns with active shooters, she could not sit on the sidelines of gun violence prevention any longer. The Orlando shooting in June 2016 prompted her to join the Brady Campaign and, subsequently, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense. She worked feverishly with both organizations for a few months, while also working hard on the Hillary Clinton campaign, and was then asked to become the leader of Moms Demand San Diego.
As the leader of San Diego Moms, in less than a year, Wendy has almost tripled the number of active volunteers in her group, grown her leadership team to fill all roles, and has set record numbers for events executed in San Diego. While doing all this she has built a coalition in San Diego, along with the Brady Campaign, consisting of the San Diego Police Department, the Women’s March San Diego, and many other civic and religious organizations. This coalition is the first of its kind in the country, where multiple gun violence prevention groups are working so closely together, and will become a model for other cities. She is currently working on expanding San Diego Moms to include a North County San Diego group.
