She attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles earning her Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Philosophy. During her time at Loyola, she was accepted into the Oxford University Scholars Program, and studied at Queens College during the summer of 1999. After graduating from Loyola in 2001, she went on to earn her juris doctorate in 2005, graduating with distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. While at McGeorge she was inducted into the Traynor Honor Society for scholastic achievement and The Order of Barristers, a national honorary organization for excellence in oral and written advocacy. Upon graduating, she was awarded the McGeorge School of Law Outstanding Student Achievement Award and the McGeorge School of Law Outstanding Student Award in Trial Advocacy.
Ms. Johnson began her legal career as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office in January of 2006. She has tried a number of misdemeanor and felony cases throughout Alameda County. While on the felony trial team she prosecuted a special circumstance murder case, and a number of other cases ranging from robbery, rape, residential burglary and assault with a firearm. She also served as a member of the Child Sexual Assault Unit for a year and a half. Currently, she is assigned to the Strike Team, a two person team charged with handling Oakland’s most violent and repeat offenders. In addition, she is a member of her office’s Officer Involved Shooting Team. As a prosecutor, Ms. Johnson takes pride in serving the people of Alameda County and giving a voice to victims of crime.
Ms. Johnson is extremely dedicated to staying active and bettering her community. In 2012, she served as the President of the Charles Houston Bar Association and previously served as the Vice-President and Community Service Chair. Ms. Johnson is also the Northern Regional Representative for the California Association of Black Lawyers. Ms. Johnson is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Chapter and has served as Ch-chair of the chapters Community Service Task Force and Chair of the children’s Book Club. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Holy Names High School, a private Catholic girls college preparatory high school located in Oakland, California. She also serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Betty’s Children’s Academy in Oakland, an award winning pre-school specifically geared toward preparing children socially and academically for Kindergarten and beyond.
In 2005, the American Board of Trial Advocacy and McGeorge School of Law named Ms. Johnson Student Trial Lawyer of the Year. In 2009 she received the Rising Star Award from the Minority Bar Coalition of San Francisco, in addition to the Charles Houston Bar Association’s President’s Award. In August of 2010, she was named by the National Bar Association as one of the Nation’s Best Advocates – 40 Lawyers Under 40, and received a Special Recognition Award from the Charles Houston Bar Association President in December of 2010. In June of 2012, she was named by The Recorder as one of the 50 lawyers on the “Fast Track” in the state of California.
