Her commitment and passion for community service and the families of Gilroy has groomed and prepared her for the duties of councilmember for the City of Gilroy
Rebeca is a 4th generation Gilroyan, and the proud daughter and granddaughter of farmworkers that helped to build the economy of Gilroy through their labor, providing a strong work ethic and sense of community that would make her a valuable asset on Gilroy City Council
Her life has been spent advocating on behalf of working class families as well as immigrants who are invaluable essential workers, which has become even more apparent during this COVID crisis. Her career has been spent increasing the wages, improving the quality of life and defending the rights of working people and their families.
On the front lines of social movements, Rebeca’s principled views have informed her activism. Principles that she learned from her mother as well as family. These values of civic duty, responsibility and a lived citizenship inspire her three children who are often beside her participating
Always present, Rebeca gives her time volunteering in our City. She is a founding Board member and current President of CARAS, a nonprofit dedicated to advocacy, service, and cultural events like the Cesar Chavez Champions Awards and the Gilroy Tamal Festival. Rebeca served as a commissioner on the Gilroy Planning Commission from 2016-2020. She has also been part of the City of Gilroy Housing Advisory Committee, Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee, and Parks and Recreation Commission. Rebeca is a founding member of Gilroy Growing Smarter and was a Chair of the Yes on Measure H campaign as well as of the campaign to Recall Judge Persky. Rebeca also served on the Advisory Committee of the Silicon Valley Women’s March 2017-2019 and is an elected delegate for Assembly District 30 to the California Democratic Party.
