Noelani Pearl Hunt has brought dynamic leadership to the Bay Area and is the first Filipina America elected to the Santa Clara Unified School District Board of Education (Alviso, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale) and currently serves as President of the Board. She has been active in many communities for almost two decades. Her leadership experience includes volunteer work with the Santa Clara Unified School District, public service on various non profit boards and committees, and professional work with various government officials and Bay Area non-profit organizations such as San Jose Jazz, Cinequest, Next Vista for Learning and most recently as the President/CEO of Living Classroom which focuses on inspiring children to learn and value our nature through garden based-education.
Noelani strives for excellence in everything she does, with a level of commitment that is second to none, fueled by a belief in the fundamental right to equality for all. She understands the positive impact that a well-rounded education can have on a community, and she strives everyday to ensure that local students receive the education they need and deserve. She continues that focused commitment by currently serving on the board of Building Peace Families as their Vice Chair and as a board member on the board of Amigos de Guadalupe . In 2015 Noelani was award with Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World, Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 40 under 40 award and was inducted in to the East Side Union School District Hall of Fame.
Noelani has been an advocate for education for more than a decade, previously serving on the boards of organizations such as the Santa Clara Schools Foundation, the Wilcox Dance Team Boosters, and Next Vista for Learning. She is also a passionate advocate for women’s rights, social justice, and the environment, having served on the boards of DAWN (Democratic Activists for Women Now), the Asian Pacific American Democratic Club, and BAYMEC (a local LGBT rights organization).
As an advocate for local public schools, Noelani co-organized “Walk for Education” to raise awareness of budget cuts. She was a key contributor to the reorganization and redirection of the Santa Clara Schools Foundation, helping that organization focus on working more directly with the children they fund and improve their fundraising results. Her most prized project is Music Rivals — a district-wide music competition that inspires student creativity and collaboration. Throughout all of this work, she has remained on the PTA board at her children’s schools.
Noelani earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Santa Clara University. She was the first in her family to attend college and ultimately plans to obtain a Ph.D.
