Melissa graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2013 with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, Economics & Sociology—Joint Honors Politics & Sociology. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Moorpark Democratic Club. Elected as a Delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, she earned the most votes among women running in Ventura County. In January 2017, Melissa was elected as an Executive Board Representative to the California Democratic Party from Assembly District 44. From 2015-16 Melissa gained finance experience as a Senior Research Associate on the Consumer Goods and Services Product Team at Gerson Lehrman Group. During the 2014 election cycle she concurrently served as a Tracker/Researcher for the DCCC, and Assistant to the Communications Director for Congresswoman Brownley’s reelection campaign. Previously she’s campaigned for the League of Conservation Voters as a Regional Field Director, and Planned Parenthood as a Field Manager. In 2012 she was a participant in a Youth Human Rights Delegation in Rwanda, and through her international travel she has extensively networked with transnational activists—both learning and sharing in dialogue. Melissa began her degree at Seattle University, and worked as an Overnight Supervisor at ROOTS Young Adult Homeless Shelter for work-study. She has been active in her community since childhood, and was awarded for exceeding 500 community service hours in high school. An avid traveler and adventure enthusiast, Melissa first landed overseas in 2011 and has since visited 25 countries.
