Melanie is an experienced policy analyst and political advocate.
While on staff at a national non-profit wildlife conservation organization she was instrumental in passing legislation in California and New York to protect wild animals and appeared in the documentary “Give Me Shelter” speaking as an expert on animal policy. In 2013, Melanie moved to New York to attend Columbia Law School where she is a Public Interest Fellow and serves on the board of the Student Public Interest Network. She is also the President of the Student Animal Legal Defense fund and recipient of an Advancement of Animal Law Scholarship. As a law student, Melanie is involved in several pro bono projects, including assisting victims of domestic violence and defending clients in capital appeals and major habeas cases. Melanie is spending the summer of 2014 in Kampala, Uganda working at civil liberties organization called Chapter Four where she is working on issues of public health, LGBT advocacy, and combating corruption.
Melanie graduated with Honors from Stanford in 2011, earning a B.A. in Public Policy. While a student at Stanford, Melanie served as an intern in Senator Harry Reid’s Washington office, volunteered on numerous campaigns, and worked as a public speaking coach. When she is not at the library, Melanie can be found volunteering with Guide Dogs for the Blind, ballroom dancing, or watching college football.
