Meghan Macaluso is a political and charitable fundraiser who has worked for more than a decade at leading Bay Area non-profits, political campaigns, and private sector firms.
Meghan began her career as Associate Vice-President of Development for United Way of the Bay Area, where she managed a corporate donor portfolio totaling more than $5 million. She later transitioned to the political realm by joining Platinum Advisors, LLC, a California-based lobby and consulting firm. While at Platinum Advisors, Meghan oversaw the firm’s political fundraising program and executed fundraisers for national, state, and local candidates, including Bill Richardson for President, Brian Schweitzer for Governor, and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
In 2007 Meghan lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she served as founding Vice-Chair of Democrats Abroad Argentina, the largest chapter of the U.S. Democratic Party in South America. While in Argentina, Meghan grew the organization’s membership by 900%, executed large-scale rallies and fundraisers, and assisted thousands of American citizens with registration and absentee ballot requests.
In 2008, Meghan joined NARAL Pro-Choice America and served as Deputy Director of Development for five years. In that capacity, Meghan oversaw California’s multi-million statewide fundraising operation with a particular focus on the major gifts and special events programs. Passionate about bringing the issue of reproductive rights to the next generation, Meghan founded Privacy After Dark, a low-dollar fundraiser designed for young professionals in the Bay Area. Now in its sixth year, Privacy After Dark has raised more than $30,000 for pro-choice candidates in California.
Currently, Meghan is the Director of Major Gifts at Population Action International, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting reproductive rights for women in developing countries. In 2013, she designed and launched the organization’s first-ever global major gifts program with a geographic focus on the San Francisco Bay Area.
In her free time, Meghan serves as a volunteer fundraising trainer for Emerge California, a statewide organization that trains Democratic women to run for elected office and provides fundraising consulting services for local political candidates. A graduate of Boston College with a BA in History, Meghan lives in Oakland with her husband Joe, their son Brennan, and beloved dog Madison.
