Read moreMaxine has been a Community Activist with Communities for A Better Environment for the past fifteen years. She uses her Activism and Leadership to partner with CBE to advocate, educate, and protect the residents of the City of Oakland and District Seven. Maxine is implacable. Her hands on action have put her at the front of several causes affecting the livelihood of the district. Challenging the Crematorium that wanted to come in and let the “dead kill the living”, they were refused access, recording the number of eighteen wheelers in the “Ditching Dirty Diesels Project” truck routes were changed,” Community Mapping” of the number of toxic producing businesses saturating the district with a report to the Environmental Protection Agency, numerous unclassified business were made to come up to code. In addition she was one of the Community Leaders that lead a Two Day “Toxic Tour” across District Seven with the Department of Toxic and Substance Control in Sacramento and one month later lead a “Toxic Tour for the city of San Francisco’ Department of Toxic and Substance Control. Her purpose is to always be a representative of the community, so that they have a voice at the table. Maxine earned her B.A. In Liberal Studies with a Minor in Activism in Social Change from New College San Francisco. She currently serves on the Alameda County Housing and Community Development Commission. Maxine is a loving wife of 30 plus years and a mother of three. She plans to continue her civic duties that will continue to enhance the quality of life in her community.
