Read moreLex Leifheit works for the City and County of San Francisco in a position created to protect vital services and resources for residents by supporting the nonprofit sector. She is involved in a wide range of business assistance and policy efforts, including the Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative, a $9 million initiative to seed the creation of permanently affordable nonprofit facilities, prioritizing those in low-income and historically underserved communities.
Prior to joining the public sector Lex was the executive director of SOMArts, a 25,000 square foot cultural center. Initiatives under her leadership included a new afterschool partnership with the San Francisco Art Institute, an international exchange between Muslim youth in San Francisco and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and an expansion of activities for youth during the annual Día de los Muertos exhibition. In 2014 she co-founded Arts for a Better Bay Area, a network that engaged 500 arts workers to successfully secure increased arts & cultural equity funding.
