Karla is a independent consultant who works closely with political candidates, labor unions and nonprofits; assisting them with campaign strategy, community outreach, lobbying, and leadership development. She holds a B.A. in political science from California State University, Los Angeles and is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Social Entrepreneurship (MSSE) at USC Marshall School of Business.
Karla’s passion began early on as a community organizer on affordable housing and green jobs in South Central LA. This experience has allowed her to be a versatile individual in the field of political and policy campaigns at the grassroots level and all three levels of government. Karla is now working on creating her own social enterprise with its mission to create jobs and opportunity for people of color in South Los Angeles. Karla serves on five boards, the San Gabriel Valley Civic Alliance (SGVCA), the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) Pomona/SGV local chapter, USC MSSE Student Association, a new start up and social enterprise in East L.A. called, Barrio Silicon and is an advisory board member for 9to5, the L.A. chapter’s national women’s organization. She’s also the co-founder, the L.A. Young Workers Committee (LAYWC) and is in the process of establishing the very first county-wide, Women’s Democratic Club. In her spare time Karla enjoys volunteering, traveling, mentoring, spending time with her family, and participating in any rally or protest where social and economic justice needs to be addressed.
