Read moreKaren Peterson is Program Manager for Seacology, where she has helped to implement over 140 projects to protect island environments and cultures throughout the world. She previously worked as program associate for the Goldman Environmental Prize, dubbed the “Nobel Prize for the Environment” by international news media. Karen has traveled to remote island communities in Alaska, Iceland, Scotland, British Columbia, the Canadian Maritimes, the Philippines, Indonesia, Micronesia, Madagascar and elsewhere. With expertise in graphics and desktop publishing, she also is editor of Seacology’s acclaimed newsletter and annual report. Karen served on the publicly-elected board of directors of the Crockett Community Foundation from 2005-2010, is a commissioner on the Contra Costa Commission for Women, has volunteered at the Pt. Reyes National Seashore Morgan Horse Ranch since 1995, and was recently sworn in as a director of the Crockett Community Services District. She has a Bachelors degree in creative writing from Hampshire College, and is a competitive trail runner.
