Karen Hanson is currently the Telecommunications Policy Analyst and Federal Program Officer for the US Department of Commerce.
In the past, Karen was a consultant working with the nonprofit, philanthropic, and private sectors, with an emphasis on business and program development, capacity-building, and the development of strategic partnerships. Karen also has public policy experience, having worked at the National Council of La Raza as an Education Policy Analyst.
Originally from Washington, DC, Karen moved to California to attend the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, where she pursued her interests in applying private sector practices to strengthen the nonprofit sector. After receiving her M.B.A., Karen moved to San Francisco and worked as a management consultant in Silicon Valley, and at ZeroDivide, a groundbreaking foundation dedicated to promoting technology access for underserved communities. She now lives in Washngton DC.
Karen also holds a B.A. in Public Policy Studies from Duke University.
