Read moreJulie Caskey is a community activist and longtime civil-rights attorney. She currently serves on the board of two feminist non-profits, as a parent leader in the Piedmont, CA schools, and on the Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee. Most recently, she spent seven years working as a staff attorney on prisoner cases in the Federal District Court in San Francisco. Prior to that, she represented individuals in deportation defense cases, in both the immigration and federal courts. Prior to moving to the Bay Area in 2001, she spent eight years as a public defender for adults and a law guardian for children in child protective and juvenile delinquency proceedings in New York City. Julie received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Human Rights fellow at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and a founding editor of the Journal of Gender and Law. After graduating from Barnard College, she worked in NYC government and politics, including serving as Executive Director of the New York office of the National Women’s Political Caucus. Julie lives with her husband and four children in Piedmont, CA.
