Jeanette Vázquez was born and raised in Orange County. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants and current elementary school teacher she understands the urgent need in an informed and engaged Latino electorate.
Jeanette began her involvement with the Democratic Party while still in high school by coordinating volunteers for local candidates. She went on to be elected as Student President at Cypress College where she organized voter registration drives at her campus for the 2008 Election. Jeanette transferred to UC Berkeley where she received a B.A. in Political Science and Public Policy. At the Goldman School of Public Policy, Jeanette conducted research around Latino voting trends and representation in California.
Intrigued by Latino demographic changes in the Midwest, Jeanette joined the AmeriCorps Program as a Language Access Project Leader for Iowa Legal Aid, where she advocated for Latino migrant farmworkers around issues of fair housing, wages, immigration, and education. Fueled by the Latino Opportunity Gap she witnessed in Orange County, she soon returned to California to join Teach For America and taught in Los Angeles while pursuing an M.A. in Education Policy from Loyola Marymount University.
As a member of the OC Young Dems and Dems of North OC, Jeanette is re-engaging Latino voters using the community organizing framework and will continue coalition building around the most pressing issues locally and statewide.
