Read moreEmily Murase serves as Vice President of the Commission on the Status of Women for the City and County of San Francisco. As part of her work on the Commission, she chairs the Task Force on the United Nations Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), a task force that is part of San Francisco’s historic ordinance that implements the treaty at the municipal level. Professionally, Emily has a diverse background that includes managing high-tech sales for AT&T Japan, staffing international trade issues for the Clinton White House, and monitoring telecommunications in the Asia-Pacific region at the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.A Founding Sister of the Denver-based Asian Pacific American Women’s Leadership Institute, she has served in leadership positions in community-based, national, and international organizations, including the Japanese American Citizens League and Democrats Abroad Japan. Emily is currently completing her dissertation on the emergence and implications of the wireless Internet in Japan at Stanford University. Fully bilingual and bicultural, Emily has lived and worked in Japan for over 5 years. She resides in San Francisco with her husband Neal Taniguchi and two daughters, Junko and Erin.
