Today I live in West Oakland with my husband Jamie, an audio engineer and producer at Tiny Telephone Recording Studio. I serve on the City of Oakland’s Landmark Preservation Advisory Board and am an active member of Open Oakland, a local group that works to foster civic innovation, participation, and transparency, primarily through the use of technology.
I got my start in Bay Area politics and advocacy by working as a Community Organizer for Greenbelt Alliance in the Silicon Valley. My four years with Greenbelt Alliance gave me the deepest, most exciting crash course in Bay Area issues I could have asked for. Most importantly, this role honed my commitment to what I think are two of the most pressing challenges facing our region: housing affordability and climate change. It also gave me the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the most impressive community leaders and officials in the Silicon Valley, many of whom continue to serve as my mentors today.
In 2012, I left Greenbelt Alliance to serve as the Campaign Manager for Congresswoman Anna Eshoo. Congresswoman Eshoo’s unwavering dedication to the working people of this country, and her commitment to being a collaborative, effective decision maker was humbling and inspiring. Her example continues to motivate me today. I’m proud to say that in 2012, Congresswoman Eshoo won by her largest margin ever.
Following my work with Congresswoman Eshoo, I consulted on several ballot measure campaigns and volunteered for now Mayor (and Emerge alum!) Libby Schaaf. In 2014 I joined Airbnb’s Public Policy Team, where I first oversaw our community organizing efforts in Europe, and where I now work in our Office of Strategic Partnerships and Public Engagement.
I hope to one day soon have the privilege of serving in public office and I am beyond delighted to be a part of Emerge.
