Read moreDr. Nyeisha DeWitt is the proud parent of three children who attend public schools in Oakland. She an active member of the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee, Oakland Unified School District’s Truancy Task Force, Effective Teachers for Oakland Task Force, Measure Y Oversight Committee and she is the chair of the Measure A Citizens Oversight Committee. Working toward the goal of increasing jobs for Oakland residents and enhancing outcomes for young people, in her spare time, she serves as a member of a number of community-based committees.Working closely with the Office of Mayor to tackle the dropout crisis in Oakland, she is currently the Director of Community Collaboration at Oakland’s Promise Alliance. Dr. DeWitt co-founded Oakland Natives Give Back, which supports the needs of families in her home town by delivering over 5000 backpacks and school supplies and other tools to Oakland students. She feels that all children deserve to feel the love and support of their community. Because of her service, she was recently featured on the California Forward website as a “Forward Thinker”. In 2010, she was recognized as a Hometown Hero, by Comcast and ANG Newsgroup and earned a Jefferson Award September 2011.
