Deborah Weinstein

Deborah Weinstein has been a respected litigator, counselor, and thought leader in the area of employment law for more than two decades. She has a national reputation for her work with employers—her forceful courtroom presentations, her sound preventative advice on workforce issues, and her passion for helping to create lawful, respectful, and productive work environments. Her thought leadership extends into teaching, speaking, and writing about people, the workplace, and the law.
Ms. Weinstein has represented organizations of all sizes-businesses, public entities, law firms and nonprofits in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies, defending employment-related matters including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, leaves of absence, wrongful discharge, terminations, employment agreements, and others. Licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, clients have looked to her to handle extremely sensitive and potentially high profile matters. She also has provided expert witness reports regarding employer practices for litigants in employment litigation.
A master teacher and trainer, for the past 15 years, she has taught employment law as a lecturer at the Wharton Business School’s Department of Legal Studies and Business Ethics. She developed the innovative employment law course, The Law at Work: Employment Law for Managers.
Ms. Weinstein is former Chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Board of Governors and Editor-in-Chief of the association’s renowned magazine, The Philadelphia Lawyer. She founded the human resources committee of the Business Law Section and chaired the association’s labor and employment, diversity, and women in the profession committees.
In 2007, The Conference Board published Ms. Weinstein’s Putting Experience to Work: A Guide to Navigating Legal and Management Issues Relating to a Mature Workforce. She advises organizations on how to effectively engage their older workers in a legally compliant manner and on age discrimination, policy, and inclusion of older workers.
Ms. Weinstein created the firm’s benchmark and training programs, SmartMoves® Anti-Harassment training, Well Company Checkup and Delivering Diversity Scorecard.
Recognized by Philadelphia Magazine as one of Pennsylvania’s Super Lawyers by her peers each year from 2004 to 2014, she is recipient of the AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review 5.0 rating (5.0 out of 5.0) in the Martindale-Hubbell® Law Directory, placing her among the top 5% of women attorneys practicing in all areas of the law nationwide.
Ms. Weinstein is a speaker and educator on work-related issues to attorneys, business owners, management, HR professionals, and the public, and a nationally prominent writer and commentator on contemporary issues in the American workplace. Her legal commentary has been sought out by the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, CBS Radio, Financial Times, Bloomberg News, Entrepreneur Magazine, and others.
She serves on the Society for Human Resources Management’s (SHRM) Special Expertise Panel on Diversity and Inclusion. Panel members act as thought leaders and serve as subject matter experts for SHRM on public policy and emerging human resources practices relating to diversity and inclusion.
Weinstein received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Temple University School of Law where she was Business Editor of Temple Law Review. She also holds an M.S.W and is trained in human relations, social science research, clinical counseling, and group and organizational dynamics.
Prior to founding The Weinstein Firm, Ms. Weinstein was a Member of the Labor and Employment Law Department of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC. She was previously a Shareholder at Connolly Epstein Chicco Foxman Oxholm and Ewing.
She resides in Philadelphia with her husband, Dick Goldberg, Director of the Coming of Ageinitiative.
