She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Planning Commission for the City of Concord and as Chair of the Contra Costa Commission for Women. From April 2011 to February 2012, Carlyn served on theDesign Review Board for the City of Concord. Carlyn also serves on the Board of the Michael Chavez Center.
Carlyn is a Past Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County, Past Vice President of the Lamorinda Democratic Club, and formerly served on the Executive Committee of the Mt. Diablo Group of the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club.
Professionally, Carlyn is a project manager, researcher, and writer who focuses on public education reform via charter schools to ensure a quality education for every child in California. She also plays the piano and organ for Sunday mass weekly at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, in downtown Concord.
Previously, she worked as a researcher/writer and Japanese-to-English translator/interpreter for the Japan External Trade Organization.
She holds an MBA from the Fisher Graduate School of International Business at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and has resided in downtown Concord with her husband, Justin, since 2006.
