Read moreBrigitte Davila lives in, works in and loves San Francisco. She is originally from Los Angeles with roots in Colorado & New Mexico. She came north to study at UC Berkeley and earned a B.A. in Rhetoric and J.D at Berkeley Law. Davila has taught in the Raza Studies Department at San Francisco State University for the last eighteen years. Among her classes are Government & Constitutional Ideals, Community Organizing, Critical Thinking and Community Law. Currently, her area of focus is political education and policy, with an emphasis on community activism. She estimates that over 2000 students have taken her hands-on U.S. Government class.
As Program Director of the Raza Studies Community Service Learning Program, Davila has the opportunity to work closely with many community-based organizations actively supporting the Latino community. She has received acknowledgment and awards for her innovative community service learning curricula.
Davila actively participated in several elections beginning with Barack Obama’s in 2008. She also served as an Obama delegate at the Democratic National Convention. She has worked on several local campaigns as well. Currently, she is serving as a member of the California Faculty Association’s statewide Political Action and Legislation Committee.
