She is primarily a product of the California UC system- with a B.A. from UC Berkeley, M.A. from UCLA, J.D. from UC Hastings, and an M.B.A. from St. Mary’s College. She has been a Clinton Global Initiative University scholar, selected as one of the “10 Faces of Hastings,” and served on the board of the Prytanean Women’s Honor Society (UC Berkeley).
Bari is very involved in the community, from her work as an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to her work as a mentor for Cinnamongirl, Inc. Bari has served as a commissioner on the Alameda County Commission on the Status of Women since her appointment in 2008 by former Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker, and was reappointed this year by Supervisor Wilma Chan. She also serves as a writer, editor, and Chief Legal Correspondent for the IMPACT newsletter, with a circulation of 30,000 young professionals of color.
She resides in Oakland with her husband, Jaime, and their son Gabriel.
